Matthew 21:44 says, “Whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” The stone in this verse refers to Jesus.
When we ask Jesus into our hearts, He becomes our Savior. He only becomes our Lord if we fall upon Him and become broken. Like salvation, this decision is voluntary. If we decide to throw ourselves on the stone, we have to become humble and hold nothing back. Then our hearts break open and expose what needs to be removed.
First John 4:16 says, “We have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God in him.”
The love God has for us is in motion; it flows continually, like a river. It never becomes stagnant, but is always fresh and pure. We can’t outrun His love. Nor can we hide from it.
Imagine a cup filled with water from a river. This is a picture of God in us. When that full-to-the-rim cup is dropped back into the river of love, we are in Him. The same time we’re in God, God is in us, continuously filling us with His sweet, flowing love.
Have you ever wondered where this love of God is when you are being emotionally or even physically hurt?
The Bible says that God will never leave you or forsake you (Deut. 31:6). But He does more than just silently stand beside you. God actually has compassion on you when you are wounded and hurting. It doesn’t matter if it was 20 years ago or today, God protects you and does everything He can to help you—but He cannot override the offender’s free will. However, as wounds are (or were) inflicted, God is with you, holding you close.
Are you tired of carrying the pain? Jesus is asking you to fall upon Him and have broken-hearted submission. Only then can He remove the devil’s weapons and pour in the fullness of His love.
