Joy in the midst of trials 2/7/2017 8:15:27 AM
Are you under such tremendous demonic attack that you don’t have much joy left? Are you starting to feel sorry for yourself? Perhaps you even think you are a big disappointment to God or others for being in your situation? These feelings are nothing to be embarrassed about, but something does need to be done about them.
Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” If we want to feel sorry for ourselves that’s our choice. But we can choose to have joy instead of sorrow—no matter how bad our life is.
Nehemiah 8:10 says, “For the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Without joy we won’t have strength, so we can’t afford to listen to the enemy tell us how miserable we should feel. Satan wants to steal our joy so we won’t have the wherewithal to keep fighting the good fight of faith. If we have the joy of the Lord, we’ll have the strength to hold up our shield of faith—the one that quenches the devil’s fiery darts (Eph. 6:16).
How do we get joy in the midst of our sadness? We express our love to God with words of praise. We focus on God’s promises and remind ourselves of how much God loves us, how great God is, and the many things He has already done for us. This will produce great joy, and this joy will carry with it great strength. The strength needed to keep fighting until we win the battle.
