When you commit your life to Jesus, you are laying before Him every aspect of your being: Your desires, your character, your intellect, and emotions, and of course, most notably, your free will. You are opening yourself up to both the Lord’s scrutiny to make you a better person, and his protection, comfort, compassion, mercy and grace which He lavishes on all who seek Him in earnest. And it all starts with prayerful trust… Great anticipation. Every day we have a series of commitments. Commitments to goals, our jobs, other people, to ourselves. Yet, what does it mean to commit your way to Jesus? In essence, to commit your way to Jesus is a weighted commitment that stands apart, far above all the rest--And your life is never he same. It is the commitment that supersedes all others, as it is based on a faith-filled bond between an individual and their Triune God--Father, Son, Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit.
When you commit your life to Jesus, you are laying before Him every aspect of your being: Your desires, your integrity, your character, your intellect, and emotions, and of course, most notably, your free will. You are opening yourself up to both the Lord’s scrutiny to make you a better person, and his Love, protection, comfort, compassion, mercy and grace which He lavishes on all who seek Him in earnest. This form of commitment far exceeds commitment to a job or another person. In fact, it opens you up to personal growth, the likes you may have likely never seen before in your life. And it all starts with trust:
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust that He will act…” Psalm 37:5
Trust is the foundation of one’s commitment to Jesus Christ, the Greatest Hope the world has ever known. Trust is the basis for praying with great anticipation that one’s prayers will be answered in due time with the best possible outcome. It also has a stabilizing effect on the people who pray, as it enables them to look ahead with hope and excitement about what God will do next in their own personal lives, and in the lives of those they pray for. Additionally, trust in Jesus quells worry and allows for one to imagine the best outcome in every circumstance.
When you commit your life to the Lord, your life will never the same. Worry and insecurity fade, and they are replaced, through the power of the Holy Spirit, with sublime confidence in Jesus’ ability to fight our battles with us and sometimes for us even as we do our part.
No, trusting the Lord is not always easy, in fact, initially, it can be quite a challenge that gets easier with time. Yet, the Bible tells us:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Turning to Jesus is the beginning of a lifelong journey in hope. Those who seek Jesus with all their heart will, indeed, find Him. And their lives will never be the same as they learn to trust in Him in all things great and small, all the while basking in his love, comfort, protection, generosity, and unsurpassed grace.
