Who will vote and who will they vote for 11/2/2006 5:17:49 PM
It is much nicer to feel we are voting for somwthing, rather than against something. I suppose everyone expects every candidate to tell us their good points and the opponents feel we should have the full story to enable us to make up our minds. I am a Canadian that has temporarily opted for the sun of Florida rather than the snow flurries of Canada. As a Canadian I do not have a vote in the election next Tuesday. That does not mean however that I am not interested in the outcome of that vote, since most people in the world will be affected by its outcome one way or another. As an interested party then, rather than a party of interest, I watch the various commercials of the candidates seeking election or re-election in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Based on those ads I declare I would not know who to vote for. With very few exceptions every candidate’s ad tell me not to vote for the other guy and gives some, on the face of it at least, very good reasons to support their statement. If I were to take all these ads together they appear to eliminate all the candidates and I would have no eligible candidates left to vote for. I am not sure how many eligible voters have the same feeling and if many will not vote for this reason. It is much easier to decide to vote for someone rather than against someone. I do not think this is by any means the only reason many people will not vote, but I think it is a shame the one’s that do not vote for this reason are left without a choice.
