I haven't been to my AuthorsDen site for a few years. That's stupidity on my part and I know it. But I've been very busy and sometimes there just isn't enough time to do other things. What I generally tend to neglect in those moments is anything that has to do with marketing my work.
And what good does that do me?
So today I came over here and started working on updating things. The site has changed since I was last here, and I was amazed at how old some of my news items were. (Vision #5 just posted? I just finished #33!)
While there have been a lot of changes in my life over the last few years, the one thing that has remained steady is writing. I still write every single day, and I submit at least two manuscripts every month. I've had some lovely sales over the last few years, and I'm (almost patiently) waiting for my novel, Farstep Station, to come out from Yard Dog Press. It will be half of a Double Dog (think old Ace Doubles), and I'm really excited about it.
I have two other small chapbooks at Yard Dog Press as well: Honor Bound and Star Bound. Both are collections of stories and I'm very happy with them.
I've posted in the news section about Muse, a novel I recently had published by OneMoreWord. I will have a nonfiction book on writing coming out from OneMoreWord as well in the near future.
The sixth (of eight) books in the Dark Staff Series just recently came out from DDP, as well as a large print paperback version of the first in the series and the first Singer and St. Jude novel.
I sold a novel to Zumaya Press. Mirrors will be out in 2008, and will be the first of a series for as long as I care to write them.
I have a story in the 21st issue of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine titled Between a Rock and a Gods Place.
It's easy for me to think that not much is really going on with my writing -- until I sit down and start listing out things like this. Add to it my other jobs -- managing editor for Vision: A Resource for Writers, Associate Publisher for Dragon Tooth Fantasy Books (an imprint of Double Dragon Publishing), and the owner/site administrator for Forward Motion (a community of writers seeking professional publication) -- and it's easy to see why I'm busy.
But I still write every day. And despite all the other writing-related work, when people ask me what I do, it's still author that I say first. And that's what I'm really doing here. It's time to remember that writing and publishing isn't the only part of this business. It's time that I start inching my way into marketing again as well.
