Heart problems are really no fun. I went to see my elctrophysiologist today to have my ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) checked. This ICD has a pacemaker buil into it too. When the nurse placed the 4 leads on my body, she found that this ICD had paced my heart 8 times since March when it was last checked. She said that was too many times, but said at least it is doing the job it was designed to do. She showed me on the tape from the testing, just how they could tell, and I saw on the test screen too, the dates that the ICD had gone off. Those were the dates that I was cleaning my apartment by myself, because the stupid social worker here in my senior building won't lift a finger to get me the help that I need, and my medical insurance won't pay for it.
The doctor told me that everything seemed all right now, but he ordered a Medtronic Care Link Monitor, so that my ICD can be checked while I am at home over the phone.
What I heard today scares me and is causing me a lot of worry and anxiety because I am afraid that I won't wake up one day. Why me? Thanx...Barbara
