An Update on Reunions 10/3/2005 7:43:06 PM
In an earlier blog, I said that my first novel, REUNIONS, would be pulled off for awhile for revisions. The plans have changed a bit for the time being. REUNIONS was published back in March of this year, and as a first time author without a clue I did everything backwards. I wrote the book, had it published by a POD company, and assumed that by being listed on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. it would sell itself. Quite to the contrary I've sold a whopping 34 copies in 6 months, so I'm not exactly on the New York Times Bestseller List. For lack of a better way to put it, my marketing ability thus far sucks. On top of that, my cover is about as visually exciting as a rotting fencepost. Lo and Behold, I have not given up on my dream. I'm not ready to pronouce my first effort dead. REUNIONS will soon have a totally redesigned cover. I reached this decision quite some time ago. However, since that time I have discovered a small traditional publisher, and as you read this blog it is being evaluated by them. REUNIONS will remain as is until I'm either accepted or rejected by this particular publisher. If accepted I will start all over and have them republish the book as a second edition. If I'm rejected, I'll still go with the new cover design and implement some previously unknown marketing ideas (although the new cover's cost will come out of my pocket). I just thought that perhaps there may be a few individuals interested in this novel and decided to give them a heads up on what has been happening with it. In the meantime my second novel, SILENT SANCTUARY, is nearing completion. And this time, I will try to seek my audience and aquire the pre-publication reviews that are essential to achieving meaningful sales. If you are starting out and can avoid the mistakes I made, you will be much further ahead in achieving your goal.
