CLIMBING THE RAINBOW OF OUR DREAMS* 9/25/2007 9:47:13 AM
When you finish the manuscript of a new book (even if it is not yours entirely)it feels like you gave finally birth to a new baby!- I think most authors will agree with me.
This book is the bi-lingual (English -Dutch)result of three month's of intense, committed work with my students of the Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg/ South-Africa. It tells in short pieces of prose, poetry and gripping illustrations the story of their past and the hopes and aspirations for the future.
Together we did climb the rainbow, so the book holds a piece of my heart and soul also. In the book is one little poem by myself that tells the whole story of this growing process and that's what I want to share with you today!
TOMORROW*
I'm strolling throughout the days
at the rhythm of this country
young intense voices
are drinking my words
returning me their approval
with smiling nods
together we search for the balance
between the extremities of the now
and the past, building bridges
towards the future
together we search the most touching
metaphors to explain hopes and expectations
we close our eyes, take shelter within ourselves
stimulating the inner fire, the latent passion
we write a poem in many tongues
it becomes a song sung in close harmony
jabula, jabula, let's be happy
tomorrow we will make a book in which
we climb the rainbow of our dreams
together!
