Blogs by Joyce E Bowling Monday Morning in the Mountains... 6/11/2007 2:52:23 AMLooks like Monday is going to bring another beautiful day to the mountains of Kentucky. We enjoyed the spending the day outside yesterday with the temperatures just right, mid eighties. Both my granddaughters spent quite a bit of time in the swimming pool for the first time this summer, enjoying the cool water and their new bathing suits. Armed with sunblock and sunglasses they were ready for fun. Being two and four they were both furious when it was time to get out...tears flooded the pool, but after coming inside where the air was cool, drying off and having a snack, both enjoyed a much needed nap. It's family moments such as these that make wonderful weekends and great memories. I have posted the link to our farm on my homepage. I still don't have it completed, but nearly. Still have pictures of my home to post, but wanted to wait until we finsh painting, and I want to add a few more of the animals and our garden. I will update it occasionally. We have a young billy goat to sell, so I was eager to advertise him. The goats that we raise originated in Africa, many people refer to them as meat goats, but I wouldn't even dream of using them for meat. Our goats are raised for show goats, competitions, and breeding. You wouldn't believe how many farms are raising goats Boer goats in Kentucky now! The government has actually funded many farms to increase the demand of goats in the state, helping to bring income to many of the large and small farms. Many of the larger farms raise goats for the meat market where the demand is increasing, due to the interest in healthier lifestyle. On a different note, we had a wonderful church service last night, the crowd was plentiful, the singing was great, and the preaching was food for the soul. Our pastor preached a message of unity, a message that is needed by every congregation and community. A message that makes one stop and assess their own life. A message that made me take a long look at my contribution to the church, not monetary...but spiritual and physical. Am I praying enough for others, am I offering myself a willing sacrifice, am I doing all that I can do to help with the construction of our new church....left a few thoughts lingering on my mind, just as an annointed message should. A meaningful message should create thoughts within our mind that will allow us to grow spiritually. A great thing about unity is the help and support that we recieve from our church family in the time of need. I've been there before when the weights of the world seem to get to heavy when suddenly the load lightens, and friend tells you that they have been praying for you. Another great example is when a we had a family member pass away and the ladies of our church brought food, enough for days stocked the refrigerator...or when I came home from the hospitle after surgery and was greeted with flowers in my living room, and later each evening a different sister brought plate lunches enough to feed my husband, myself and both of my kids...this is the unity that is needed in a small community, the unity that our little church continues to thrive on, and the unity that allows us to pull together in the time of need. Gotta run and take Bethany to work this morning, her blazer is down...Just a few thoughts from this Kentucky mountain woman this beautiful Monday morning...
