Meal Time is Family Time
11/12/2006 1:56:58 PM

Try to eat together as a family as much as possible.
Hi! I've always felt that family time is extremely important, especially in this day and age. Meal time is the perfect time to bring the entire family together. I have always made it a point that we all eat together. In doing this, we can find out how everyone's day went, what they did today at school, work or play, etc. It lets us enjoy each other's company if at no other time but this.

This was a much easier task to achieve when our children were small and in school. Now that they are all grown up, and in college, combined with working, it is much harder to get everyone to the table for mealtime. As this became more difficult, I stopped stressing over it and made the exception that during the week it was okay if we could not all eat together, but Sunday was another story. Aside from shift work, we all agreed that Sunday would be the day we all tried to keep for family meal time.

It was equally important that our children stayed at home for as long as they needed to; to continue and complete their education for as long as they wanted. To obtain as many degrees they felt necessary for their future occupation, without worrying about paying us any money for anything. They have enough with their student loans! Once they have completed their goals, saving as much as they could along the way for moving out, we advised to have a few months mortgage or rent as a cushion, just in case. So far, it seems to be working out okay. They know they will always have a home with us no matter what.

My husband and I always wanted to impress on them the importance of family time together. To always remain close to each other in conversation as well as thought; hoping that they too will instill the importance of family meal time to their children (once they have them)!

I hope this information is helpful to many of my readers, if for no other reason but to shed a little light on why I chose this title for my cookbook!

Happy cooking!
