Where will the rapid expansion of technology through globalization lead us. Throughout history, we have seen many models where a few privileged individuals have attempted to control large numbers of poor and underprivileged people. In modern history, we can point to examples such as South Africa, Rhodesia, and the domination of India by Great Britain. In every case, control proved untenable. Are we looking at a comparable case in today's world in the distribution of technology and wealth between Western civilization and the developing world? Capitalism will not provide answers to these questions, but it will intensify our search for these answers as populations increase and the urgency for answers likewise increases. Capitalism has proved to be an effective natural system of the distribution of cultural information, products, and technologies, and in the final stages, ideas and knowledge. It is a robust system which has so far been able to defeat the intentions of Western civilizations to restrict the flow of certain information to under developed countries. Given this tendency, it is inevitable that at some point the system will eventually equalize itself and disseminate information and wealth, thereby equalizing all nodes within the system more or less uniformly. The final question, then, is: will it occur peacefully?
