P.R.O.E. #1- "Everyone dies, its in God's hands as to when."

Some Paramedics who graduate feel that they are now empowered with a gift. The gift to "Walk on water, no one dies on their shift" They find out later in their career that this is simply not true. This first rule means that you do your best, even if you think the patient is going to die and there is nothing you can do about it. Sometimes its a surprise and a great feeling when they do survive. But always remember P.R.O.E. #1 which leads to P.R.O.E. #2.

P.R.O.E. # 2- "Paramedics can't change rule #1, unless God lets them." 

Even when you think you have done everything by the book, P.R.O.E. #1 is in effect. Don't dwell on the outcome because it will take its toll on you mentally. Let it go. If the patient survives because of your actions, it feels great. But if it does not go well, think that the patient had at least a fighting chance with you be their side.

P.R.O.E.  #3- "You have no control as to who your partner is. Be a partner, work with them. Avoid prejudice and confrontation. It will reflect in your patient's care."

I have been through alot of partners, most of them I liked. Some of them were real scary jewels. Remember you are a team and you must place your life in their hands. If you overcome you differences and get along, it makes life easier for you and your patient. Also remember your life may depend on their actions one day.
