Picking and finding and agent to represent you is an arduous task. I recently was sent a contract from an agency for one of my novels. EXCEPT...here is where the money pit starts...they want ME to pay for Critiques, EDITS (big NO NO) and review...my question is this? IF it was so good that they sent a contract, why do I have to pay extra for stuff? Beware the agent who wants MONEY$$ for doing something YOU have to do yourself anyway? ASK the agency for a list of books they have sold and IF they can NOT list any, run as fast and as far as you can. They will use phrases like, "to protect our clients" and "confidentiality". A good or HONEST agent would be happy to showcase thier successes, don't you think? Some agents hide behind their real purpose...taking YOUR money for things that YOU should NEVER have to pay for. IF you want to KNOW HOW well YOU are doing as a writer, to see how far you've come or progressed, then seek a critique on your own. It is a learning tool but when you are sent a contract from an agent or publisher and they want YOU to pay up front moneys, something is wrong. Be careful out there.
