A Sad Sad Chimp, he has no hair. 10/21/2009 11:00:17 AM
On the "Your Shot" page in the Nov. 2009 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, you will see a steel-grey hairless chimp. The photo was taken by Sanja Upadhyay at the Mysore Zoo, India. Upadhyay says that the animal was born with fuzz but soon lost it and has been "naked" ever since. I wish I had some way to share the photo with you. The animal sits on a thick branch, knees drawn up, head to chest, elbows on knees with a hand in a fist to the top of his head. It is said that the chimp is the one animal that is closest to us of all the animal world. Looking at this sad photo it is not hard to believe. I hope the animal is warm in his zoo home.
