What people should know Everyone needs to know what affects alcoholism has on our lives.
I have a brother that has been an alcoholic for most of his life. He traded children and wives for just one more Budwiser. No matter how many times intervention happened it did no good. I always told him that this day would come and how it would affect the rest of the family not to mention other people that loved him. But the disease is stronger then family, blood or even love. Its a robber and a thief. It steals everything away. Your life, your family, your carreers and anythng else you ever dreamed of being and leaves you a shell of what you once were. Its a killer. Cirrohosis catches up to you and there's no way out. No do overs, no hey, can I start again. Nothing will cure this. The family's are left asking why, all the while watching this person that was once a big as life have strokes and become a shell. Helplessness sets in and no matter how many years you were a care giver or nurse or parent. You can't help them. You can do nothing but watch and wait. All the poems and prayers and my passion for writing can't make this disappear. For his 53rd birthday I should be ordering him a cake, instead I am ordering his urn. Where is the justice in that? will somebody tell me that? If I reach just one person out there and convince them that alcohol isnt worth their life, well then maybe his life will not have been for nothing. Maybe he can somehow live on in a good way. Please stop and think about it the next time you raise that Budwiser can to your lips or that mixed drink. Life is so precious and so short. Ask yourself if that is the way you want to go. Its not pretty. Think for just one moment how your loved ones would feel if they had to watch you waste away and die.
