How do we deal with the Iranian threat? First we need to fully appreciate the nature of the threat.
This is my attempt to expose all those who have warm fuzzy feelings for the concept of breaking bread with the devil. It is my plea to the well meaning minions, secular and religious, who live their lives oblivious to the truth of the proverb, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Those who entertain the notion that they can communicate effectively and influence evil in truth sustain and encourage evil. And make no mistake about it President Ahmadinejad of Iran is the face of evil. A gaggle of naïve leftists have fallen prey to their own good intentions and immoral pacifist instincts. They have created a veritable traffic jam among those on route to embolden Islamists like the President of Iran.
In particular five leftist Christian groups have decided to honor Ahmadinejad with a dinner while he is New York. On a trip when Iran’s President affirms his genocidal dreams, these self described peace loving, highly educated morons are lining up to genuflect at the feet of a later day Hitler. The Mennonite Central Committee, the Quakers, the World Council of Churches, Religions for Peace, and the American Friends Service Central Committee are reaching out to the man who would cleanse the landscape of Jews.
Don’t get me wrong. It isn’t just naïve leftist Christians. “Journalist” and or hosts like Larry King, Mike Wallace and a score of academics at Columbia University, many Jewish, have seen fit to give this man a forum now and the past. Their high regard for their noble intensions blind them to the fact that they are being used by a man who has no intention of compromise and will only respond to coercion and force.
I watched Larry King act like a servile puppy as he was manipulated by a man who would slice off Larry’s head with barely a blink. My stomach churned watching a Jew show even one ounce of respect for this calculating anti-Semite. Mild mannered Larry King provides the perfect metaphor for the divide over how to fight the war against the Islamists. He reminds me of the pathetic individuals who were trying to reason with Hitler while the gas chambers were going from plans on paper to functioning extermination chambers. It demonstrates with an acute degree of clarity the massive misreading of the Islamist threat by so many on the left. Negotiations, discussions, understanding, diplomacy and reaching out have a place in life and in international affairs. But there are some whose only objective is to exploit such jesters. Wisdom and common sense derived from historical precedent rather than good intensions should be our guide.
Granted there are situations where some ambiguity about the intentions of your enemy may exist. One might have given President Clinton some leeway as he met with Arafat some 50 or 60 times at the White House only to be burned by a terrorist attempting to disguise his intentions. But Ahmadinejad’s character and intentions are as clear as any could be. He has repeatedly made his objectives clear. He will not respond to soft and fuzzy gestures. A firm hand backed up by a very serious and clear threat of force are the only things that have any chance of protecting the free world from this financer of terrorist in pursuit of nuclear weapons.
And a final note to Jews who are distracted by their warm feelings for the well meaning Christian left. Remember that the vast majority of Evangelicals on the right are not burdened by the illusion of appealing to the humanity of the Islamists. They recognize the devil when they see him. You may have a patronizing and condescending feeling about those who say they know evil when they see it, but ironically they are the ones who have a firm grasp on the realities of the transcendent challenge of the 21st Century.
