Let There be Light / City of Gardens 4/4/2009 6:38:26 PM
It has only been 35 days since the book release. It doesn't even have much coverage on the net at this time, but Victoria is starting to warm up. I can foresee a lot of interest in the book shortly after the Easter weekend. Police, executive directors, mayor and council and others are showing interest in what will be said about them in next year's book, 'City of Gardens: The Invisible Society.'
I don't actually know if this is really interest or harm reduction. 'The City of Gardens Collection', tries to equally give both sides an opprotunity to be heard. I am leaving it up to the people of which side they choose to support.
My dedication and morals will not be jeopardized by offers of gratuity or threats to change how I write my books or challenged to abort the project. This is a promise to my brothers and sisters on the streets.
For the past twelve months, I have been ignored by these entities. Now that they can see the book cover on their desk,all of the sudden someone has something to say. I will tread carefully, but I will not sell my soul to the devil.
Everybody is walking on eggshells and waiting for which one will throw the first punch. I was in the infantry for ten years and fighting is something I do best.
I received a review from a fellow Canadian who understood the societal decay we are facing in Victoria and Canada. It is fitting to say that my first online sale came from Ottawa, Canada. The reviewer was quite interested in the book and highly reccommended it.
If this is any indication of the general public's consensus, we are in for one heck of a ride. If the upper echelons decide to either support or abort, the media will certainly follow. Where you find media, you will find interest.
After all this time of pleading and begging for media coverage, only a few stepped up to the plate. It is those who I will grant full cooperation and support to. What goes around comes around and my guest list is very short.
Things are starting to form a familular pattern. These tactics are very simular to what I am accustomed to with my military background. I won't bite at the carrot knowing that I will end up in the pot.
I will stay foccused on my main goal of bringing about awareness about mental illness, addiction and homelessness in hopes of reducing stigma, discrimiation and fear of my brothers and sisters on the street. Secondly, I will continue to financially support charities with their continuing fight against homelessness.
It is as simple as that. My focus is to see these goals through come hell or high water. This is a careful game of chess. I will not be swayed by offers of gratuity or threatened by the courts.
I was already told by someone in the upper echelon of what I should write about. I take great offence of having someone tell me what to write or not to write about in my books.
This is the magic of self-publishing. I wrote, formatted and funded the book from my own pocket. It is me who has the control. The ball is in their court and I can return anything they serve me.
