Marketing City of Gardens 4/16/2009 11:58:09 AM
It is easier to pull my own teeth out rather than trying to sell a single copy of, 'City of Gardens: The Other Side of the Fence'. I have established a distribution system, but it is not being used. I am a licensed and registered busieness and have everything I need to operate and mantain it, but no calls are coming in.
Paid advertising is a waste of money. Free publicity is not very effective either. Events and presentations do work the best.
To actually meet and speak to an audience provides an opprotunity to gain a foothold on the public. The passion and emotion has a visible and emotional impact when described in person. E-mails get deleted, letters get trashed and phone calls are hasty.
45 minutes in front of an audience focussed strictly on you is the most direct and influential method of delivery of your message. In less than an hour, you are guaranteed to sell at least one book. You could pay for 5,000 flyers and not even get one sale.
Personal contact is the key to success. To win the audience over, you must be polished and confident. Emotions are a major factor to include in your presentation. This provides an instant connection with you and your audience.
Book readings, presentations and workshops are ideal to establish those connections. Being a guest speaker at a school, college or university scores very big hits.
If your presentation fails, so will you. You must know your subject better than anyone else, otherwise no one will want to listen to you.
Energy perpetuates into excitement which then promotes sales. Alway remember, it is not the book you are selling, it is yourself and your message. Selling books is just a residual after effect. You have to put the worm on the hook before the fish start to bite. A fire always starts with a spark. This is where you come in. Spark the interest and the audience will thrive to learn more.
