This will be fun to watch This book series will serve as a permanent record of this time in Victoria history. It will serve as a reference to other cities and countries of what to do or not do. This is an opprotunity for Victoria to shine or go down in a ball of flames.
The first year saw some success, but was also met with a lot of challenges. This year is much slower and the successes are few and far between. We are in the seventh month of the second year of implementing the plan to house 1,550 homeless people in this timeframe.
October 19th, 2009 is the cut-off date for the writing of, 'City of Gardens: The Invisible Society.' This is also the second anniversary since the plan went into action. This is not to say that there is still a lot of hard work left to do if we want to achieve our goal.
The community leaders of Victoria is downplaying our situation and are trying to do some damage control of this book series. So far, I have been blatantly lied to, cohearsed and manipulated as to what I should or should not write about. March 1st, 2010 will reveal my thoughts and beliefs of what affect these suggestions had on what I write about.
As you know by reading my blogs that I don't make friends easy with the system. This doesn't bother me the least. My true friends are the mentally ill, addicted and homeless. This is the whole reason behind the book series. It is their voice that speaks a thousand words.
Reality is hurtful and is best left alone by most of the mainstream population. The truth is harsh, but so is the situation. The facts spoke for themselves in, 'City of Gardens: The Other Side of the Fence.' This book will put the meat to the bones. True life stories from the streets and first hand observations of the implimenting of the city's plan will open your eyes for the very first time.
This is not white collar talk. This is street level intelligence. If you think that their message is brutal, try living a day in their shoes. Society lives within the safety of their own bubble unaware of the harsh realities that surround them.
The situation is brutal and the only way to convey the message accurately to to show it for what it really is. My friends on the streets are not Boy Scouts or Girl Guides. They live by the rules of the street, not the kind that you abide and are accustomed with. These are natuaral human instincts that dictate whether they live or die. When the costs are so high, rules, regulations and laws do not come between a life or death decision.
The general public are afraid to listen to them. Their voices are rough and very distinct which in many cases is also direct. People are afraid that they will be offended, so they just don't listen. By my friends using this book series as a platform to speak from, their voices will be written in blood. This permanent record will either serve as reference or a beating on society.
Face it, there is nothing nice to say about being mentally ill, addicted and homeless. Why are we so shocked and reluctant to face reality? The brutal reality must be seen to be believed. The books series describes this quite eliquantly in a language that you are bound to understand.
Instead of us putting on a false face and pretending to being anything but honest, we will bring you down to our level. If that means hitting you at the knees, we will do that. If it means that we have to kick you when you are down, we will do that too. One day, you will hear these voices loud and clear. It may not be today or tomorrow, but it will happen. Perhaps, that day will come when the 2010 Winter Olympic Games come to British Columbia. We are in a direct line of fire of having our hearts break when the world sees the truth before we do.
The book series is of little interest to you now. Pehaps when the red flare goes up, so will your panic. The funny thing is that it has already been put to paper a year before. By that time it will be too late. It did serve it purpose of being a warning shot, but was ignored. Now it will serve as a permanent slap in the face.
For years to come, this book series will be a constant reminder of when the City of Victoria burnt to the ground. Our most vulnerable are the experts on issues like mentall illness, addiction and homelessness. They know better than anyone else of what is the truth on Victoria streets. It only makes perfect sense to listen to them, but we don't.
