New book / AWSOME!!! 9/13/2009 11:41:23 PM
"City of Gardens: The Invisible Society" is going full steam ahead after nine months of illness. There is a lot of catching up to do before the October 19th deadline of this year. This is the 2nd edition of a 7 book series. I hope to finish the last 100 pages or so with testimonials of the mental ill, addiction and homeless in Victoria, BC, Canada. These people are incredible! The public is so scared and ignorant of our most vulnerable that it makes me sick to the stomach. The misconception that they are all lazy, drunken, stoned or criminals is all false. There may be some truth to that, but I trust them more than I trust society. They will not stab me in the back, treat me with disrespect or belittle me like the general public does.
This book series is dedicated to my friends on the street. Everyday I learn something new. I am just as naive as the rest of society, but I am working on removing that stigma. My first step is to talk to them. Secondly, treat them with respect and offer them a helping hand.
There is no use for people who neglect, belittle or ignore them. That is a cowards way out. There is no visible reason to be scared of them. They are the real people of this city. They earned their rights to be here and have all paid their dues. This is more than I can say about the general public.
They are not numbers, statistcs or labels, these people have names like, Terry, Sue, Randy, Renee, Ray, Rob, Frank and Mama Bear. This is as real as you will ever get to really life. They been there and done that.
These are the people that I looked into their eyes and listened. They are my true heroes.
