The latest book is now complete. It is in the hands of the editor. I am hoping for a March 2010 release. "City of Gardens: The Invisible Society" is the second edition of "The City of Gardens Collection". "The Invisible Society" has changed gears and focussed more on interviews of various people in the city including the most vulnerable instead of reciting statistics, figures and reports.
Work for the third book has already started. "City of Gardens: Victoria's Dirty Little Secret" will be a significient addition to the series.
There will now be ten books in the series. This is an extension to coinside with the city's plan to house and support 1,550 homeless people within this time.
It is now the third year of the plan's conception and there already has been two extensions to the deadline. The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness Society will put most of their energy into providing awareness of the situation to the public in 2010 as well as waving off some demons.
I have had remarks that my book series is for a too narrow of a audience. This is true, but this was purposely designed to be that way. Mental illness, addiction and homelessness is an epidemic all over the world in which every town and city are faced with similar problems.
It doesn't matter which city you chose, the problems are the same. From studying each other in how they address these issues will be of great value around the globe.
In this case, I chose Victoria, BC, Canada because they have one of the most agressive plans that I am aware of. They also have had numerous successes so far that have been applauded by some provincial officials.
Victoria is in my opinion a perfect example for the world to follow. The series may look specifically targeted on Victoria, but it is a universial issue.
I do not expect this series to be of any true benifit until well after the plan is complete. It will act as a case study and a reference to sociology in the western world.
This ten year case study will be one of the most important studies ever conducted. This is a wriiten doccument that will freeze a time in our history that marks the beggining of a new evolution.
