Closing a Chapter...Beginning a New One 11/25/2009 9:43:47 AM
Today was a very special day of awareness for me. I had St. Vincent come to my house and remove a lot of items of my past and my father's to give to needy families for Christmas. I am happy to say that I filled my garage with Toys, Shoes, Clothes, and even some furniture. When the two men arrived I felt like a weight was finally being lifted from my shoulders. Two years ago, I had them meet me at my father's apartment to remove his furniture and belongings. That day was extremely sad because I didn't want to let go and knew I didn't have a choice.
He used to wear a cowboy hat everyday and I felt like they needed to stay with me. What I didn't realize at the time is how many hats he had. I also kept his many fishing poles as that was his life for many years. The last years of his life he remained out of touch and lived in a tent on many lakes around Texas. He was really happy alone just fishing and being in touch with nature. Anyway, the two men remembered picking up his belongings and thanked me for being so generous.
This time was different like it was closing a chapter in my life and moving on to the next one. What a great feeling it was not only to give to someone but also having the things gone and being able to breathe again.
