Booksinging initiation for debut authors
Exhausting and exciting! Crestmont was featured in 4 booksignings in Sullivan County, PA over July 4th weekend. What a learning experience.
I found talking to people who had worked at The Crestmont Inn when it was in the original form that I wrote about in Crestmont fascinating.
I thought I had done an in-depth description of waitress training, until I heard stories about the finger bowls. Waitresses were permitted to pick one flower from the campus gardens to float in their fingerbowls - and there were contests!
One woman brought me orders for the tables she served. One guest was designated as "captain" for the table and wrote everyone's selections down to give to the waitress. Some had amusing added comments like "Hurry, Dottie, I have to get to my golf game" and "Remember, not too dark on the toast."
The whole experience entrenched me further into what life would have been like back then in the good old days.
