I find that if I am not careful that I lose and discover the same wonderful information over and over again.  Unlike painful "lessons learned" when something goes wrong, the brain does not seem to have the same stimulus to fix great and good things in permanent memory.

Hence, I have found that such "AHA" moments need the discipline of pencil and paper to commit them to permanent memory.  It may be that you never have to look at that particular piece of writing again, but the act of recording it helped your brain store the information.

Every day can be a treasure hunt both in your work and personal lives.  Practice looking at the commonplace in a new way.  Find a new way to drive home.  Make yourself open to suggestions from your friends, colleagues and relatives, even if the suggestions are slightly outside of your comfort zone.  Try a new class or course at a local college to expand your circle of acquaintances and knowledge.  Read a new author.  Find a new quote for your learning journal.

It turns out that a blog might just be the ultimate learning journal.  It not only allows you to record the treasure that you found, but it also allows you to reflect on its place in your life.

In some ways the Tao is the learning journal of Lao Tzu.  The pieces of wisdom hidden in the verses are like little jewels waiting for discovery.  There is a short piece in Verse 32* that reflects the quote that began this discussion.

"One who knows the truth
     that underlies all things
     lives in this world without danger
To him, every word reflects the universe
     every moment brings enlightenment"
