NaNoWritMo Day 15: 30109 words

Today, the words just flowed ...
I amazed myself with getting ahead again today. After a lackluster day yesterday where I wrote the words -- today, the words wrote themselves.

Many of you who are writers do not like NaNoWriMo because of its emphasis on creating word count, not necessarily quality words. You are entitled to your opinion, but next year try it, then knock it.

The one thing that I have found about writing is that the more words you write, the more chances you have to write some really spectacular things.

I think this was driven home to me almost 20 years ago when I had to take the GMAT after almost 20 years of avoiding standardized tests. Most of my assignments as a consultant had been more geared toward reports, requirements, sales proposals, etc. In short, I was constantly writing -- not writing fiction (at least we did not call it that when we did proposals), but writing clear concise pieces that had to be understood by well targeted audiences.

As a high school and college student, my math scores had always exceeded my verbal scores -- not by alot, but by enough to be noticable. When I got my GMAT results back, low and behold, my verbal score exceeded my math. You see I had forgotten alot of the tricks of the math trade that are tested on standardized tests, but since I had been writing and writing, my verbal scores soared.

So don't knock writing words -- even if today's are not spectacular -- who knows about tomorrow's
