Elder Manook led Prince Dante to the side. “A word with you Prince. I have heard that Matt, Will, and Art have fled back to New Earth fearing another attempt on their lives. I have also heard that Earth’s Guardians have shutdown the Nexus. These stories do not ring true in my spirit. These brave men do not strike me cowards. They are not the kind that would slip away under the cover of darkness. Have you any news Prince Dante?”
The Prince took a look around to be sure that no one was listening to his conversation. “I can only tell you that there is some truth in what you have heard Elder. The Nexus has indeed been shut down. Only a select handful of well-trained Guardians have been allowed to remain. As for Will, Matt, and Art, I can only tell you that these are men of great courage. For the moment I can say no more. Lady Janna has requested a meeting with me in her chambers later today. You are a very wise leader Manook. All I ask of you is to be patient.” He gave Elder Manook a stern look then turned and rejoined the group. The Prince and all of the members of the council were given a quick tour of the city before they were taken to their quarters so that they could prepare for the meeting.
Later that afternoon, a guide escorted Prince Dante to Lady Janna’s quarters for a private meeting. The fragrance of lilac filled the cool dimly lit room. Lady Janna stood in the middle of the floor with her hands clasped in front of her. The Prince kissed her hand and began to bow until Lady Janna stopped him.
“No my young Prince, it is I who should bow before you. For many generations the people of Rayos have languished on the outer fringes of the galaxy unfairly labeled as outcast, abandoned because of the reckless deeds of our ancient ancestors. We were like a child with its nose pressed against the glass hoping to be invited inside, to be included, to feel welcomed. We have been the forgotten ones.”
The Prince nodded his head in agreement while he allowed Lady Janna to continue. “But no more Prince Dante. I along with my people owe you a debt of extreme gratitude. It is because of your bold decision that we now have been given an opportunity to show the galaxy what Rayos has to offer. To finally remove the invisible shackles that has hindered us for far too long. Today is the beginning of a new era for Rayos and for that I give you and your King my thanks and offer you my loyalty. I am in your debt.”
