The History of Herbert T. Thomas, my grandfather 5/15/2011 4:51:47 PM
My grandfather Herbert Theodore Thomas-1856 to 1930 wrote two books long before I decided to write my own autobiography "A Struggle to Walk with Dignity-The TRUE story of a Jamaican-born Canadian". My grandfather's two books were "Untrodden Jamaica"-1890 and "The Story of a West Indian Policeman"-1927, these books are hard to find except for the UK at the Bodleian Library-SOLO Oxford Collection. Most of his history of contribution to his country Jamaica, as a Police Inspector, Author, Lecturer & Naturalist. The problem is that H.T.Thomas was a white Jamaican who has been removed from his countries history when one considers his contribution to Jamaica. This appears to be a case of reverse discrimination of a man who's ancestors came to Jamaica in 1754 as Moravian missionaries. H.T.Thomas went on to cross the racial divide in British colonial times, by marring my black Jamaican grandmother Leonora Thomas after his first white Jamaican wife died in 1921. The three books are now linked to tell the total family story of the Thomas-Archambeau connection, and the deep rooted problems of race and how it affected my life. Gerald A. Archambeau-author.
