Dream or a Vision? 7/5/2011 3:18:44 AM
“Dreams are illustrations... from the book your soul is writing about you.” ~Marsha Norman
“The best thing about dreams is that one second between sleep and wakefulness, when you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality and it really happened.”
In life, many thoughts are born in the course of a minute, an hour, a day. Some thoughts show up again in our dreams, while others are actually visions. Sometimes, we are unable to distinguish between the two.
To some, a dream and a vision are the same, but the reality is, not all dreams are visions. Much of our energy is lost in the fantasy of dreams because dreams never really bear fruit. But that can't be said of visions -- these are messages from the Universe, and each is given to us for a special purpose. Also, one person's vision can't be someone else's vision, no matter how similar it may seem to their own.
To have a vision, you have to be ready to receive it, and when it comes, to accept it. The spiritual side of the Universe knows everyone's heart. How could a vision be given to someone if that person were not able or willing to carry it out? The message is simple: a spiritual commitment comes before a vision.
A few weeks ago, I had what I first thought was a dream. I was in the woods walking through the trees, enjoying the silence and it was peaceful. Suddenly, I came into a clearing. In front of me was a river with white-water rapids and I could hear the roar of the water as it raced by me over its course. It was somehow obvious to me that I had to get to the other side of this raging river. There was no way I could wade across and I saw no rope strung from side to side that I could use to shimmy across. It was a helpless feeling.
As I stood by the bank, wondering how I would get across, I watched as a large flat stone slowly began to rise from just under the surface of the water, about two feet out from me. A stepping stone! I walked out onto the stone. Then, about feet out, another large flat stone emerged from the water. Then another appeared, and another, until I was all the way across the river on the other side. When I turned around, the stepping stones were gone. The helpless feeling was also gone and I felt free to continue my walk.
I didn't give any more thought to the dream, until a couple of major events occurred in my life, each was a couple of days apart. Once I recognized them and the problems were settled, it made the dream I had take on a whole new meaning. It suddenly had a symbolic texture to it. It had been a vision of several problems I would be facing and have to resolve. To check my awareness, I discussed the dream with Robert and Dinahh, and both agreed with me. As a part of my growing awareness, I'm being shown the subtle difference between dreams and visions -- I can't help thinking, how exciting!
