This week, 21,000 heads of Asian countries stayed near my condo. Cool! So awesome, having all these hot shots in my town. Waikiki, probably the most famous beach town in the world, tried hard to prove it was also a business destination where serious people do serious work. Up at our university, we have a creative bunch of scientists making great leaps forward in biology and astronomy, and start-ups in a fascinating array of renewable energy. And who can fault us for a multi-cultural society that, most of the time anyway, loves each other and wishes each other well.
For instance, if you're stuck in the wrong lane on the freeway (we do have them. Count 'em, three!) just put your turn signal on for a lane change and within a car or two, voila', there's a hole for you to steer into. Try that in Kansas City!
Debriefing some of the APEC participants, we discovered they were surprised that we actually do business here. Yes, we do! But who can fault them for being most impressed by our scenery. By our weather. By our aloha spirit. Oh, yeah!
