Sensing When a Passage Is Not Quite Right 9/27/2013 7:11:34 AM
I've been writing something all my life, and one instinct has stayed with me: sensing when a paragraph, an explanation in a how-to piece, or a bit of dialog in a novel is not quite right.
Usually I sense it even as I put it on paper, but most often just keep going anyway.
The first time I review it for editing, the niggling feeling is obvious. If I am smart, I fix it then or at least begin to fix it.
Sometimes I resist a little longer, only to finally admit that my first instinct about it was right.
As I work on my new novel today and in the days to come, I keep reminding myself to be smart about those niggling feelings.
