Website and iPads for the elderly 1/14/2014 7:35:35 AM
I have created a website for the elderly surfers - 65-85 years+ Anyone of that age can contribute information,tips, books they write or love , hobbies etc. It is compatible with both computers and iPads. I have made a website, elderlysurfers.com for use on iPad as well as computer. I think many elderly people who are not computer literate, could learn to use an iPad quite easily. At least, for what they need it for. My husband (nearly 80) and I have both had a virus and been unable to go out or do the shopping. Rather than relying on a friend, I went on- line and ordered our next week's food from Tesco online. It was very simple and fun. There are simple 'apps' for Tesco and other stores ( in UK).
The government talks about old people being lonely, isolated, cut-off etc - do they really care? If so, why don't they start a scheme for old people to have iPads, with a few lessons as necessary? It could be easily organised locally.
Facetime could bring them closer to their distant families and friends could chat during the long evenings when visiting is impossible. Books, music - everything the younger members of society use, could be used by the elderly. If necessary, simple instructions could be written down for particular sites.
iPads are being organised for school children. So, why not for the elderly? Any views or comments? If so, go to CHAT/CONTACT page on elderlysurfers.com and enter a message.
Of course, they will also need Wifi in their home. Oh dear, the government will soon flee away! Are old people only worth talking about?
