Finding Peace in the messiness of day-to-day life How soon do we forget to live in peace. How quickly the smallest thing can pull us into the storm of worry and fretting. My son forgets his lunch on the table, a note comes home from school that he has five late assignments, deadlines build up, the car won't start because it is so cold outside, the dog peed on the persian rug. Soon all hope of peace is lost and the day is shot.
During these moments of chaos, we have an important choice to make. Will we stop to pause and allow Jesus to reroute our day so he can take our distress and make it beautiful or will our whole day be about just trying to survive?
If we allow Jesus to soothe our restless, frantic heart with his endless grace and lovingkindness we can have a do-over at any moment in time. If we can slow life down, live it as though it were being filmed in slow motion, we can see the beauty in all circumstances and give thanks to God.
I will only have my teenaged child for a little more time, until he breaks free to live his own life. Can I be thankful for missed assignments and forgotten lunches and the small inconveniences that steam roll me each day? One day I will miss these daily interruptions. Oh Lord, teach me to pour my life out to the last drop for others. Show me how to find joy in all circumstances and to live for this moment and this moment only. Help me to slow down and see the endless gifts you surround me with at all times. Show me how to choose joy and see grace like rain poured down on me.
