The Thrills and Chills and Pills of Being Ill 2/14/2015 11:08:00 AM
The fun side of sickness The dreaded forth season of the year is inhabited by millions of billions of zillions of illnesses; old ones, new ones, mutant ones, and illegal ones that are just looking for somewhere to crash for the winter, and one and all they breed like jackrabbits hopped up on fertilization drugs and trying to keep warm.
How can a body be well when all around are not? There’s no escape to be had. Illness is around every corner and behind every door and in the mouth of everyone you tongue wrestle with. It hides in the darkness and laughs at you in the light. There’s no digging a foxhole in the frozen ground (if you can even find it) to hide from this germ warfare. Look out, it’s right behind you and it’s got a knife!
Who doesn’t enjoy having a basketball for a head and having it filled with snot instead of air (the normal skull contents of many people, some of them blond, some of them my readers). And there’s nothing quite like a nice fever to keep you warm, especially when it freezes you out while it burns you up. And it’s such a blast to have liquid like substances mercilessly blasting forth from every bodily outlet. And don’t you so enjoy having to live on a diet of tea and soup and crackers and Jell-o and rice? How nice! And what fun it is to take handfuls of pills several times a day to help you rest when you already can’t stay awake. And what the hell kind of a way is being sick to use your sick leave? I wasn’t planning on coming down with anything until July. Thanks, everyone!
