Life On Mars? 2/28/2015 6:58:03 AM
A look at the plans to send people to Mars Men may be from Mars and women may be from Venus, but don’t get used to it, as from what I understand way of USA TODAY in about another nine years they’re going to be sharing Mars fifty/fifty, which in Earth numbers will be twelve/twelve ultimately but two/two initially. Yep, one dozen Trekkies and one dozen women interested in space exploration from around the world (this one not that one) are looking at taking a one way ride to the red planet through a Dutch non-profit organization named Mars One, which put the word on the street two years ago that they were looking for volunteers to take a flying leap (of faith) to Mars and drop dead there. As of now they’ve narrowed their search down from a mere two hundred thousand applicants (a whole lot of anti-social personalities there) to a whopping one hundred finalists.
At a cost of six billion dollars the company plans to send four people up first and then, if they should happen to somehow survive, another crew to accompany them every two years afterwards. It seems that the catch to this free lifetime work vacation for the extra lucky top or bottom (which ones would you send?) four Guinea pigs on the ultimate list is that in as little as sixty-eight days they may (or may not, think positive) die from oxygen related issues. That’s one way to get out of years of hard labor, and hard labor aside, there’s that razor thin slice of a chance that upon establishing their presence on the hot rock which for worse or worst they’ve committed the remainders of their unnatural lives to they might decide to encourage the onset of the oxygen related issues.
Thirty-three of the finalists are Americans. An unsurprising fourteen of them are from California, because what have they got to lose. If they stay where they are they’re doomed anyway, and that’s just from their oxygen related issues, to say nothing of their crime rate or North Korea (yeah, probably not) or their earthquakes or their flooding issues or their mudslides or their volcanic activity or their wildfires, etc.. Three of them are from Florida and that can’t be good. I don’t suppose that we could be lucky enough that two of them would be George Zimmerman and Casey Anthony. One of them is from Washington, D.C. (Joe Biden is looking for a ride home). One of them is looking to fly away from his wife (it seems like a long way to go to get a little side action). If she was happy with him before she probably isn’t so now and vise-versa, but of course I don’t know yet if I’ll make the final cut.
Mars One wants to send up people to farm and to doctor and to do a lot in-between and with all that there is to do on Mars (it’s a very gassy planet, so there’s that, fart one, two, three and such), I gotta believe that there’s gonna be a fair amount of plowing and playing doctor and in-between things going on.
In my younger days I used to dream of going to Mars, but than again it is the god of war, which is my ruling planet, and it is as miserable of a place as I try my best to be of a person.
