Over the decades, there have been many films set in the future. None of them have ever come to be. I thought I'd take a lighthearted look at some of them. Many of us love a good futuristic film. It allows us to escape and ponder what it might be like in the future. There have been many films which have came and went that were set in what at the time was the future. I thought I would take a look at some of them.
1. I don't know the name of the film but it was made in the 1950s and set in 1973. The film was about a space mission to Mars. In 1973, NASA was just starting to send unmanned rockets to the Red Planet and landed an unmanned vehicle on it three years later. Still, no human has been there.
2. Rollerball, made in 1975 and set in 2018. The premise was that wars would no longer exist but there would be the violent game of Rollerball. Well 2018 is only a year and a bit away but there are still wars and no Rollerball!
3. Escape From New York- according to this film, in 1997, New York City was to become a maximum security prison. That never happened.
4. Escape From LA. A sequel to number 3, made in 1997. In the film, Los Angeles breaks away from the continental US and in 2013 is a dumping ground for all criminals and undesirables. Some may joke that LA is that today but not in the way this film intended. It's still attached to the rest of the US.
5. Zardoz- made in 1974 and I believe set in 2000. This Sci-fi classic is a futuristic world that has resorted to a more primitive existence. Sixteen years beyond 2000, the world is a advanced as ever.
These are five that come to mind but as more do, I will post about them in the future.
