The Changes Discovered In Others 9/16/2017 7:23:13 AM
An American woman visiting Rishikesh and staying at the same ashram (Parmarth Niketan) as I, eager to chat with fellow Americans, she "saved" all our headache-laden brains by pointing us to a Rishikesh version of a coffee shop those years ago. I mention her with gratitude in "Moonlight on the Ganga." Now look where she is now and what she is doing! Rishikesh, India, Ma Ganga, this place shifted me those years ago from a hard-headed business manager to one who could glimpse events and people with non-physical eyes - Well, at least for some time thereafter. I did, however, leave after several weeks, despite invitations from the Swami and urgings from others I'd met at the ashram to stay.
But, for that American woman I met at Parmarth those years ago, the woman who swore she had taught the proprietor how to make a somewhat palatable cup of coffee, the woman who would sit and talk of her and our desires and confusions while sitting on the banks of the Ganges River - for HER, life has transformed and become grounded in love. She is now named Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji, travels with the swami, leads classes and talks on meditation, heads up well-being programs, speaks at the U.N and elsewhere, and is in regular communication with organizations around the world.
It is fascinating to hear and feel the transformation within her (from rich Jewish girl living in the land of Hollywood to Hindu spiritual teacher based in Rishikesh), and all the good she is working to create and promote.
This video (link below to pop into your browser), titled "From Hollywood to Holy Woods," shares her personal story, including interviews with her parents, etc. Some quite humorous tales as well as informative. A pleasure for me to say "Hey, I know her!" (while I'm sitting here drinking a very strong cup of Northwest-brewed coffee)
