Loss 10/9/2017 5:18:05 AM
The word "loss" is described as (1)the state or feeling of grief when deprived of someone or something of value and (2)the fact or process of losing something or someone. That's pretty cut and dried. If there was ever an emotional dictionary, it would say loss is the empty space left in your heart, the urge to pick up the phone but then remembering she's not there, the memories that fill your mind when you try to sleep or work, the smell of her perfume and the softness of her skin, her awesome hugs and her ornery grin. I know this because my "loss" was my aunt last week. She was the final matriarch of my family and, after just turning 91, she went to sleep and left us. There's the devastation that sets in with the knowledge that you'll never hear her voice again, never hug her again. We go through the ritual of funeral and burial that is supposed to be our "final goodbye", but I'm not sure when the closure is supposed to happen? It's an everyday reminder for me that our time is not promised. We may say "see ya later" in the morning and find that that was our last time seeing or talking to that person...there's no chance for "later". Every minute of every day is a gift and a new chance to make sure those you love know you love them. Take a minute today to think of those you love and remember the last time you told them how important they are to you. Spend the time you have filling them with so much love that they'll have a heart full of it should they ever have to face your "loss".
