Reading Activates Writing Reading has a significant number of benefits for writers:
(1) Reading keeps your mind active. Your thoughts are activated when you lose yourself in a great story.
(2) Everything that you read can fill your head with information that can help with a new title for a novel. It better equips you to resist writer's block.
(3) The more you read, the more words you gain exposure to that can help with building character development and dialogue.
(4) Reading can allow you to analyze details of what you've read when it comes to critiquing the plot of the story.
(5) Well written stories of other writers can influence one's own writing.
Read the story and slowly read it again. Take notes. Ask yourself questions. What was the message about the story? Were you prepared for the climax? Did it seem both plausible and in keeping with the theme? Did you see why the main character cared so much about what he/she was doing? Were you aware of the importance? Did the plot keep you in some degree of suspense about what kind of story you were reading? At the climax, were you surprised at how the character succeeds?
