Faith As Your Support System 8/29/2019 6:27:56 PM
how having faith has helped bring me through living with a gambling addict As I have had to deal with the gambling addiction of my spouse and what it has done to our marriage, the relationship with our children, our finances and his friendships, I know that without my faith in God I probably would have lost my mind.
God has continued to bless me through this ordeal and the Enemy has tried and tried to bring me down, but I refuse to succumb to his trickery.
Things have happened that I know only God could have intervened for me. I almost lost my house, yet God was able to make a way for me to come up with the money to save my house. I had my car repossessed. At first, I was upset but realized that I had asked God to make a way for me to have some extra money and he did by taking away my car. I ended up getting a car that was already paid for so as a result I no longer have a car note and my insurance was greatly reduced. So it was really what was best for me. God did for me what any parent would do for their child to help them out. There have been many times when my electric or gas could have been turned off, but God always made a way and no service disrupted.
I am in the process of selling my house and granted with everything that has gone on, my credit isn't the greatest; yet when I went to speak with the mortgage officer and he ran my credit report, it was clean and he was shocked at my credit score. I was expecting things to show up on my report that I disclosed, but none of those items showed up and to me but God. There was no other way that my score was where it needed to be and those negative things were not on my report. Some people may say it's luck and some people may say the creditors are just slow in posting. It may be and I would say that they aren't a year slow in posting and I don't believe in luck or coincidences. I will always believe that God is on my side no matter how hard the Enemy tries to frustrate me.
There are things right now that could be discouraging, but I'm not stressing; I'm praying to God that he knows my needs and will order my steps and remove obstacles in my way of what I need to do.
Sometimes God even has to guide you to remove certain people from your life in order for you do God's will and that's why I believe that God will make a way for me to be able to sell my house and buy another. God is always faithful and never leaves my side even if I leave him for a minute.
I recommend that when you are dealing with someone that is an addict, that it's important that you have a support system. I do have friends and family, but the biggest part of my support system is my relationship with God. He is my support when no one else is there for me or able to listen to me. When I focus and listen, God will speak to me.
Dealing with an addict is stressful and God will give you peace. Without that peace, you could literally lose your mind or slip into depression because it can all be so overwhelming. When you can't pay your bills, your house is at risk and relationships are at risk, you don't know which way to go. Some days, it feels like the walls are closing in on you.
All I can say is, keep the faith and continue to pray for yourself and the person dealing with the addiction. When times are tough, just look to the sky and say God give me peace.
