USE THE MODEL SIMILAR TO ELIMINATING SMALLPOX The world's first mistake was not tackling the flu viruses. That complacency to accept hundred of thousand of deaths each year from the flu has allowed governments and society to accept cancers and deaths from them as a fact of life. Those are failings of our governments to protect its citizens. Massive profitable industries have spawned up to deal with these two afflictions. Those who ignore the masses forget that we are all human beings.
Covid19 has been a global challenge where deaths are weighed against opening economies and livelihoods. The rich have gotten richer and the masses poorer. That harsh reality used to belong to the third world, then the developing world and finally in the last few decades it has become reality in the first world. People are having to work paycheck to paycheck to live.
Covid19 affects global power between advanced nations and the interests of the rich who don't want to see their fortunes decline. They know people are in need and will put pressure on their governments to open up the economies. Its a terrible tragedy to see people line up for food in the richest, most advanced nation in the world.
A global effort is needed to eliminate Covid19. The world had not succeeded in producing a vaccine for SARS, MERS and HIV. Should we bank on a vaccine for COVID19? No. WE SHOULD QUICKLY USE A SIMILAR METHOD THAT WAS USED TO ELIMINATE SMALLPOX. There should be a global lock down for a month where everything shuts down except for first responders and health services. All clusters of Covid19 should be found and isolated. Those clusters should be treated and isolated for longer. We might be able eliminate Covid19 and any of its mutations. I say "might" because we don't know yet if the virus can become resident and passive in the body of its host and strike later again. However such isolation methods might prevent hundred of thousands from dying from a pathogen we can't see. And if governments and the rich really care for the masses they might actually get vaccines for Covid19 and other viruses. If they go further they might even get rid of carcinogens and make cancer a rarity once again on our shared planet.
