Covid19 Healthcare Workers & First Responders 12/18/2020 3:55:55 PM
Will the toll on healthcare workers & first responders be remembered and addressed after Covid19 pandemic is done? Like many that have gone to war to protect their nations healthcare workers and first responders have gone out of their way to help tackle the Covid19 pandemic. History has taught us that after the events are over these heroic people, who have put their lives on the line very often suffer from PTSD and subsequent issues afterwards,are forgotten by politicians and the general populous.
While there have been many positive strides towards helping soldiers of war in developed countries there seems to be insignificant effort to help those that are fighting Covid19. These people have stayed awake working for hours, been through hell seeing the suffering and dying among the public and their colleagues. No doubt they will need help coping with the aftermath of what they have been through. I hope we see governments establish quick, functional non-bureaucratic assistance for these people. Theses efforts have to be sincere and determined like the efforts put towards finding the vaccines.
But there is another segment of society that will also need help. These are the people who have lost loved ones to the virus. Almost all of them not only suffered the loss but were unable to be beside their loved ones before they passed. That empty chair at the dinner table will be their constant reminder of their loved one(s) lost to the virus.
Other groups need mention here. These are the people that also risked their lives to keep sectors of the economy open; grocery workers, workers in the manufacturing chains,911 services, emergency workers, teachers, etc.
Its a pity there was no global effort to fight the pandemic. So many lives could have been saved, so much suffering could have been avoided and we could have been free of this virus long ago. Refer to my blog "Global effort needed to eliminate Covid19."
With the recent explosion of infections and besides what I have mentioned above now we have to worry about the length of the immunity offered by the expensively made vaccines, the mutations of the virus, possible reinfections, unknown shedding of the virus from carriers and other issues of the virus or possibly from the long term effects of the vaccines, lost economies, poverty, etc.
Hopefully society and governments come through to help those that need the help. Photo ops will not do. The next pandemic should not be PTSD and its related issues.
