Chaos and Calamity at the Capitol 1/17/2021 6:56:16 AM
Who would have thunk it witnessing a sitting president inciting a throng of people to storm our Capitol in Washington D.C. For four years America and the rest of the world has been party to Donald Trump's skewed version of leadership.mThe 2020 Presidential Election showed the true colors of a man bent on his egotistical and tyrannical nature when it came to control or lack of same. Constant claims of a flawed election and cheating at the ballot boxes were false accusations after being defeated by President-elect Joe Biden. What a relief! In the aftermath he was impeached--for the second time. The first president in history bestowed with the (dis)honor. I used to think that Andrew Johnson, he of the reconstruction era after the Civil War was the worst President in history, but Trump is in a class by himself of not only being the worst, but defiled the world over. Know too, that America has been besmirched devoid of the trust that the world once admired and trusted us to be. I have worries of my own. Worries as a man of color in this nation when unequal justice is applied to just us while scales of racism tilt south with no inclination of balancing itself for equal parity. I worry about social reform and how we will fare when police brutality runs rampart, where gun violence and our communities continue being disenfranchised. My worries are not just within my realm of understanding...I'm sure others like me are apprehensive. Trump has seen to it where decisive policies are rooted in prejudicial logic. The Coronavirus is much more than a pandemic. It has become a scourge of death, destruction and turmoil. And when I think about its first foray into our national ids, Trump ignored the warnings and dismissed it as a temporary malady.
Let me return to the gist of this essay. We are in times of anarchy where End Times as depicted in Biblical lore are indeed among us...and have the president spark people of a terrorist notion to besiege our nation's Capitol was heretofore unheard of, unfathomable, and unnatural. In my mind I'm thinking no-one in their right minds would act and react with just a spirited and fiery spiel of condemnation? You witnessed that in the deranged mind of Trump trying to hold on to waning power. As I watched on television the scene unfolding I strained my eyes to see if any Black folk were among the terrorists. No. I couldn't find any, which brings me to a point: Since Trump coddled to white extremist mindsets all of them were radicals supporting a man with no regard to life, limb or liberty. Are there lessons to be learned now that the road to appeased value will be fraught with uncertainty? Moreover, we know that our new President Biden has his work cut out for him. He will have to circle the wagons and put more trust in his appointed cabinet members; as well as ourselves living in a new world order.
As I close, I ask myself other questions...how can I be prominent and affluent helping to allow favor and flavor with me making better decisions for myself, family and my community. The people spoke louder and made it clear they didn't want another four years of Trump and his anarchy-laced rhetorical stance. I'm hopeful that all of us would look to the sky and pray a bit harder, longer, and with a hardened demeanor for change to manifest destiny. Let us band together forming coalitions while we love each other more. Let us end things that are tearing our neighborhoods asunder, and most importantly, let us establish order in our homes teaching our children the mores and morals of good citizenship among the chaos and anarchy tendencies.
