A Day in the Life
My week started out okay on Monday. It was for the most part normal. I did my usual chores : laundry, vacuuming, changing bedding. But something was brewing I had yet to find out about.
On that same day, I had decided to take our car and run some errands.Tuesday, the next day,our car was scheduled to be inspected by our mechanic. This meant, considering how much needed to be done, down time was unknown. Up until the day of inspection, our Ford Fusion was showing unwanted rust and because of electronic lights and signals going off there were more problems. Basically, Monday was uneventful.
My husband and I drove separately in order to drop the car off Tuesday morning. Then came the waiting. We had talked about how our desire to possibly let our youngest take over the car. For a first car it wasn’t bad. Our Fusion was dependable, good on gas and we were truly hoping to get a few more years out of it. Wrong! The news came: more things wrong than right according to a mechanic. In my husband’s words “ a boat anchor “was what it could be used for. Well, we didn’t need a boat anchor; we needed a car. The news about the car came three days after a problem with the minivan we “ inherited “from my in-laws, rendering it unfit to drive. Something wrong with it also.
Now, we had nothing fit to drive and the inspection on the Fusion had less than a week. Our backup vehicle was the minivan.
Upon returning from work Wednesday afternoon , my husband informed me that his work truck was now also in the garage for a problem that came up while driving it that day. Not his fault by any means. The truck has never been very dependable and terrible on gas mileage, too. Unlike others he’s had in the past, this was the worst. To our surprise, however the problem with the work truck was easily remedied and was available for pickup later Wednesday. Being the brave one of the two of us, my husband offered to drive the van if I followed his lead in the car, to pick up the truck and drop off the minivan. Did I lose anyone??
The next day was Thursday and I had to get some food for empty refrigerator. Wednesday night was now shopping night. Thunderstorms were expected that evening but came early.Go figure. Along with all that’s already happened this week, why not pounding rain and thunder to boot ?
Just about finished shopping when I heard the rain on the rooftop of Wegmans. Yes. Rain. Coming down in torrents. I decided to browse a little more and head to the checkout. Thankfully, the Lord calmed the storm down by the time I left the store. He always does.
Thursday. My day of fasting for this week. Another family situation had reared its head and, at last ,was the final straw for the week of our trials.
At one point , having beeen so very frustrated, and seemingly unable to see the light of day, I called my good friend, Carol. She let me vent and after several minutes offered suggestions and promised prayers for our family. Thank God for good friends.
Here I am on Friday, happy to have made it ( almost) through the entire week. Oh, we get the minivan back from the service center, this morning. ( Friday) Thankfully the problem was minor.
What I was reminded of this week was that no matter what happens : God is in control, in charge of our circumstances. He knew the car wasn’t going to pass inspection without dumping more money than it’s worth. He knew about the minivan problem and that the truck would need fixed as well. Romans 8: 28, says “ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are the called according to His purpose.” Here’s to next week!
