Purpose For the Pain 1/29/2024 12:34:09 AM
If there’s a purpose for the rain, there’s a purpose for the pain. Why shouldn’t there be a purpose for all that comes our way? We, as humans, are always trying to explain things we don’t understand. People want to know the why and the what. Curiosity, they say, killed the cat but it doesn't hurt to wonder why things turn out the way they do.
If we start to think of reasons why events turn out as they do, it doesn’t change the facts. Honestly, we must not trust our Creator. He is sovereign and is in charge of the universe, after all. We are the cause of our grief if you think about it. We do reap what we sow. When God made man, it was man who disobeyed God. God cursed all of mankind. If we had just chosen to obey from the beginning, the world wouldn't have been messed up. Sin is the root cause of pain in this world. Not “karma”. Human beings were born with the ability to reason. This was one of the most distinct differences between man and animal. And mankind was given free will to choose evil or good. Man has the freedom to choose. However, left to ourselves, and a life apart from God’s guidance, we are a mess. Our sinful hearts deceive us over and over again.
The purpose, you ask. The purpose of suffering is to teach us something. God will reveal the reason if He chooses. I believe that we are not always shown the reason why one person lives to be 90 and another dies before birth.
If we were to see from God’s perspective, we may not like what we see. God wants us to get to know Him. He wants us not to learn from our mistakes, and to not repeat them over.
One of the best verses in the Bible to explain the trials we go through is Romans 8:18, “ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us.” In other words, whatever bad or unpleasant and even painful experiences we go through do not hold a candle to what is on the other side of this life on earth.
