Waiting For the Muse to Hit 2/16/2025 3:42:12 PM
A horrible time for a writer. That dark, gloomy time between storylines, sitting, twiddling one's collective thumbs, hoping for inspiration to settle into one's psyche. I wander around in a daze of sorts when not working on the next 'great American novel.' Don't know about you guys, but I feel a little lost and disoriented at such a time.
Guess I shouldn't really worry about the next book as most of my efforts could not be classified up there with the 'GREATS'.
Not being modest, just realistic.
But writing makes me happy. So, finally, after a long work week, the muse hit. I am in the 'research' stage. A cool, exciting time as the story comes into being in my head, right?
I base all my books on real events, historical fact or people who really exist or did exist.
I get to know these guys. I get to meet so many interesting, phenomenal characters. I learn about people who lived other lives, in the past or imagine those who might live in a future time. I get to build worlds where they come into existence.
Every writer knows this feeling. It's a good deal.
We are truly gifted to have been selected with such an outlet in our lives. I was stunned to realize recently that most people do not have these voices speaking to them. That most people, cannot comprehend where the ideals come from.
I can't answer that question truthfully for I was just sitting there, organizing some papers when my latest notion hit. Where did it come from?
Good question. I wonder if any writer can actually reply earnestly and make a non-writer understand.
