Greetings to the readership of the Icarus' Voice newsletter. I felt it was about time for the next edition of the newsletter.
In the last issue I touched on the new administration and stated we can only hope that the next four years goes by quickly and that the current president does not do too much damage. It could be that some of you have heard word already about how the current administration is wanting to or trying to mess with Social Security payments. I,myself worried that something was going to happen this month to my Supplemental Security Income. I learned from a YouTube channel how there might be disruptions in Supplemental Security Income payments after April of this year but, was relieved to find my money not only in my bank account this month in the correct amount plus it was directly deposited in my account a few days early. This goes to show that anything we hear may just be rumored and speculation. Since the human mind has a propensity to jump to conclusions and imagine the worst case scenarios. In light of not knowing all the facts and what is really happening, if we don't watch ourselves our minds will create their own narratives which only serves to create panic and paralyze us because we can feel powerless and helpless to do anything about it especially when right in the middle of it. So everyone hold your breath, try to be patient and consider what you reasonably can do for yourselves in the event your disability is tampered with by the current administration. I have a few suggestions.
There are a couple of channels specifically for people with disabilities. One such YouTube channel is the disability digest. This channel supplies information and advice to people with disabilities who are trying to apply for disability insurance or who did apply but were turned down. With membership, which is free they can really help you. But also you can just subscribe and watch their videos for free on YouTube as well.
Walter hnot of the disability resolution does videos on YouTube on all things considering social security and takes questions related to this on the phone once a week at night I believe on Thursday.
Also remember receiving food from family, friends and relatives you can no longer be penalized for with the” in kind” rule having been eliminated. So reach out to them for that kind of help as well as food banks, community kitchens and any charitable organization.
I have heard that there are groups of people who have rallied together to protest what the current administration could do to Social Security. So please be aware that you are not alone with this. But, you should use your voice as well. You can even write the administration via email these days. So it won't even take a stamp or a trip to the local post office but they do need to hear from you whatever route you choose to let them hear from you with. This will also show support for those who are choosing to protest vocally. There is strength in numbers and so the more of us who write, email and call etc the better the chances they will have to hear us.
One more thing to keep in mind. It had been rumored months ago that the ones who receive a paper check or a debit type card with your social security payment attached to it could be forced to start having your money directly deposited and while it is your choice in what form you want to receive your payments, I would advice you to arrange with your or a financial institution to get direct deposit. It won't hurt if you do and in fact it is more convenient then a check or a card and like the name of electronic payments implies it is direct . You won't have to worry about your check not arriving on time or getting lost in the mail and banks also will issue people debit cards. You can also use checks to pay rent and pay your remaining bills online as well. It is just time to step out of the dark ages a little everyone. I have had direct deposit for years and have had no problems with it in decades plus many banks will deposit your money a few days earlier now. And that can be a blessing. Just think about it.
