Very informative writing, Christine. I'd never heard of this condition, although I have encountered many people afflicted with Autism. You are a beautiful Mother and your daughter is very lucky to have such a loving Mom, whose not only her biggest fan, but her greatest advocate....

MY LORD, CHRISTINE! I JUST READ THIS AND I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW YOU MUST FEEL ON TWO LEVELS. ON ONE LEVEL, AFTER ALL THIS TIME YOU FIND OUT THAT YOUR DAUGHTER WASN'T FIGHTING AGINST YOUR OR AUTHORITY BUT NEEDED YOUR LOVE IN A WAY SHE COULDN'T BEGIN TO EXPRESS. AND ON THE OTHER LEVEL, YOU ARE SO GLAD THAT YOU NOW KNOW HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD AS YOU BOTH GROW CLOSER...WHILE LEARNING TO UNDERSTAND HER CONDITION BETTER. I didn't know about your daughter, but I'm so glad you are advocating for the syndrome.

I just returned from the Abilities Expo in Houston, where I sold my books alongside two autistic artists. A 16 year old young man, Grant Manier of Grant's Eco Art [online] does outstanding collages and is outgoing and friendly because of the confidence his art and his mother gives him.

Chris, I know you will put all of your energy into this. Unfortunately you are not the only family I know with a variation of aspergers. 3 children in my neighborhood have been recently diagnosed with celiacs. look that one up for fun. It seems things keep changing people's behavior and eating habits. Have to start wondering about it all. I am sure there is a sense of relief having identified the problem, and now apply a solution but, I know it's not that simple.

I do not know anyone w/Asperger's...I believe the majority of the public do not know what the disease is about. You and your daughter are in my prayers

The ebook "My Aspergers Teen" has been a Godsend to me. I have a teen and an adult with Aspergers who I must care for- and knowledge is power. Thank God you have identifed the issues early and have the added gift of music to bring to your cause. All sounds so positive!!!

Strange that girls can cover up the effects of Asperger's, but boys can't. I know you will do what you can for your daughter and other girls who have the problem. This is a disease, that although I've heard of, I know hardly anything about. I'll have to do a little research.

I am not a religious person, Christine, but do feel that your quest to "become an advocate for all girls and women with Asperger’s" most certainly meets with God's approval and I wish you good luck with the journey of understanding between your daughter and yourself.
