Christine this is a barbaric practice I have long opposed and openly voiced my disbelief to any and all that would listen. Unfortunately therein lies the problem. Effecting a positive change that would see this religious rite halted for the lifetime of suffering it creates for those women impacted is a major challenge so I will again become active in seeking its end. Thank you for refreshing my mind as to the extent and horror of female mutilation.

I had to go to Wikipedia to get a fuller grasp of this issue. It is frightening, outrageous, and incomprehensible at the same time. How do you pull a huge mass of humanity into the 21st century? This one has me shaking my head in bewilderment. Thanks for turning on the light.

It would be wrong to point fingers at just one Middle East religion. Hebrew scripture, for example, requires five 'witnesses' to testify that a woman resisted her rapists - an unlikely result if she was gang raped. Bringing charges, she automatically admits to a 'sin' requiring public execution. Because Christianity insists upon using the Hebrew Bible as validation for its own faith, it also embraces all of the anti-woman stances of the older beliefs. Well done, Christine. We need new stories ... our grandchildren need new stories.

It seems only men, so far, are in complete sympathy with this horrific practice. But the fact is there are MANY things done to women of that shameful religion. I mean, come on. A religion where, if a woman is raped they put her on a fake trial for enticing the man/men who raped her and gives her lashes with a whip. Someone, somehow, needs to sever the heads of these fanatical mullahs who preach this pure hatred of women.
