Jerry, while looking for your books, I came upon this blog. Normally I don't read the blogs here, but I'm glad I found “I Felt Helpless.”

It really must have been terrible to find that you couldn't care for Dottie anymore. Some life decisions are really bad. I'm trying to plan for the day when Beh can no longer handle me with all my problems. In a way I hope I die before that happens.

Jerry, I know that feeling all to well, and the date I had to place my mom in a nursing home was June 16, 2002. I went every day for one month. Then after that 3 times a week. I felt guilt for 5 years! I felt like I failed my mama because she didn't want that, and I was an emotional wreck. I could not take care of her and she didn't let me forget that. But in January of 2000, Teddy and I went to visit her for New Years day. She was happy and she forgave me! I still think that I did the right thing, because she lived 7 years and 7 months and had a NEW life confined in that wheelchair, and of course she was grieving my dad. I have no regrets today. She passed away on January 8, 2000. But she forgave me!

As sensitive and kind as you are, I know you made the best decision. I can feel your heartbreak. I know a wife and a mother are different but just the same that was a heart wrenching decisio, and somewhere deep inside she understood.

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength" Isaiah 40: 31. Death is a part of life, we know, and the God of all creation tests hearts. "Thou who has made me see many sore troubles wilt revive me again" Psalm 71: 20. And so when a loved one passes, especially a spouse, we still are connected in a spiritual way; we still love them, and so does God Almighty.

Am so sorry that you had to go through the toughest of times. Indeed life is a mystery but rest assured that you did what was best for Dottie. Lots of Hugs Jerry.

Sorry you went through such a trying time, time does heal, and life goes on believe me i know too from experience but reading it from someone else helps too.

I understand. Sometimes we have to do what must be done for another person's benefit. Sure, sometimes the decisions we need to make aren't the ones we want to make but must be made.
