"Bullying Still Hurts 20 Years Later"

I can so relate! Your story is so like mine. At our 40th high school reunion, the woman who had bullied me unmercifully in school was there. She joined the group I was sitting in, and listened attentively...

After about 20 minutes, during which I was regaling everyone with stories of my life, she said to me, "You were never this pretty in high school." I was taken aback, but just smiled and let it go. A few minutes later, after everyone laughed at my story, she said, "You were never this much fun in high school." I turned to her, and said as kindly as I could "Yes, I was. You just never took time to notice."

We'll never be friends. But today, she sees me for who I am, and I see myself better too. I found kindness and letting go of all the hurt has helped me to be more open to more people, and I have more friends as a result.

Let her go! Forgive yourself for quitting dance -- and go find an adult dance class! It's never too late to be happy and have fun!
